Catalog Year Modifications
What Is a Catalog Year?
A catalog year refers to the specific edition or academic year of the University’s catalog. The UNM catalog is a resource that contains information regarding the university’s academic program requirements and policies for each department and college at UNM. Each catalog year can be viewed as a different version of a rulebook, it outlines the academic requirements, course descriptions, degree plans, and university policies that apply during that specific year/semester. The semester in which you get accepted into your major for your degree becomes your initial catalog year that students must follow.
Your catalog year is important because degree requirements, course offerings, and university policies can change from year to year, and sometimes from semester to semester. Knowing which catalog year applies to you can help ensure you are following the correct requirements for your degree.
Catalog Year Modifications
One of the benefits available to Graduation Project students is the opportunity to request a catalog year modification.
Rather than automatically following the most current catalog year, the catalog associated with your most recent semester of enrollment, you may be able to return to your original catalog year, based on when you last attended UNM. In some cases, returning to an earlier catalog year may reduce the number of courses you need to complete before graduation.
Before requesting a catalog year modification from the Grad Project, we recommend meeting with your academic advisor. Your advisor can compare your degree audit from when you last attended UNM with your current degree audit and help determine which catalog year may be most beneficial for your academic progress. Depending on your degree program, some restrictions apply, as there is 10–15 year limit with some majors.
How Can I Apply?
- Email thegrad@unmm.edu to request the required form.
- Complete the form with your academic advisor.
- Make sure both you and your advisor sign the form before submission.
- Submit the completed form to thegrad@unm.edu before the semester deadline.
Deadline Dates
Catalog Year Modification forms must be submitted by email to thegrad@unm.edu by 4:00 p.m. MST on the semester’s census date. Census is typically the third Friday after the start of the semester.
